About Riverview Urologic Associates
In 1970 Dr. Charles Burns, Sr. and Dr. Marshall Rumbaugh combined their practices of Urology to form what is now known as Riverview Urologic Associates. Including their predecessors, our practice has been continuously providing treatment to urologic patients of the Wyoming Valley since 1911. Now under the direction of Dr. Michael H. Rittenberg, Riverview Urologic Associates continues to deliver the highest quality, state of the art Urologic services in a prompt, courteous, and compassionate manner.
Clinical evaluation at Riverview Urologic is structured to ensure that each patient encounter results in clear diagnostic conclusions and a defined plan of care. Initial consultations focus on a detailed review of symptoms, prior treatments, relevant medical history, and potential risk factors. Diagnostic strategies are selected based on clinical indication rather than routine protocols, allowing testing to remain targeted and clinically meaningful.
The practice places strong emphasis on patient education as part of the care process. Physicians take the time to explain diagnostic findings, outline available treatment options, and discuss potential outcomes and limitations. This approach allows patients to make informed decisions based on a clear understanding of their condition rather than generalized recommendations.
Riverview Urologic manages both acute and chronic urologic conditions, including those requiring long-term monitoring. For patients with progressive or recurrent conditions, care plans are designed to adapt over time, incorporating follow-up evaluations and reassessment as clinical circumstances evolve. This longitudinal approach supports early identification of changes that may require adjustment in treatment strategy.
Minimally invasive and non-surgical options are considered whenever appropriate, particularly in cases where conservative management may achieve comparable outcomes. When procedural or surgical intervention is indicated, the focus remains on precision, safety, and preservation of function. Decisions regarding intervention are guided by clinical evidence, anatomical considerations, and patient-specific factors.
Coordination of care is a core component of the practice. Communication between physicians, clinical staff, and referring providers is maintained to ensure continuity across diagnostic testing, treatment, and follow-up. Administrative processes are structured to support timely scheduling, efficient information flow, and clear documentation.
Riverview Urologic also recognizes the importance of addressing conditions that affect quality of life but may be underreported by patients. Concerns related to urinary control, sexual health, and functional symptoms are evaluated with the same level of clinical rigor as more overt disease processes. The practice environment is designed to support open discussion of sensitive concerns in a professional and respectful setting.
Through a combination of clinical expertise, structured evaluation, and individualized care planning, Riverview Urologic aims to provide urologic care that is precise, measured, and grounded in medical evidence. The goal of every encounter is to deliver care that is appropriate to the patient’s condition, aligned with best practices, and responsive to long-term health needs.
